Why Self Care?

08.20.2025 Self care is a term that is thrown around quite a bit. It typically makes one think of taking time out for yourself to experience a luxury. Like going to get a massage or manicure. And, that can be one idea of self care. But, I'm talking about self care in a broader sense.

Taking a conscious moment to do what's good for YOU! This can take any form. It can take a couple of seconds to hours. Or from a whole day to a month. The benefit from making a judgement call inspired through self care can last a lifetime!

When was the last time you took a moment just for you? Every single day, there needs to be a moment where you consciously take time for yourself. Do something good for yourself where the sole benefits fall on you.

What does that look like? What could it look like? And why is it imperative that we do so?

Let's answer the why first? Because YOU are the most important person in your life! And because you are the most important person in your life, making you happy, making you healthy, loving YOU should be a priority. If you are unable to care for yourself, first, you have no fuel to care for others. You're running on empty.

Taking time out for yourself is like fueling your mind, body, heart, and soul. Even in small ways, you can regain the energy you need to help or serve others.

Self care can look like anything. It can be anything that you purposefully take some action that serves you. This big, small, or in-between thing focuses on you. Not to be confused with a selfish thing, selfish time. There's a thin line between self care and being selfish. The identifier being, doing something for yourself that harms or inflicts pain upon another for that purpose. Which leads to another distinction, setting boundaries can be a form of self care. Which, may hurt someone else's feelings but serve you. In this case, it is not selfish, though it falls under the rule of inflicting pain on another. That's why its a thin line.

Rushing around all day, feeling like you're getting nothing done. Just running around in circles. Doing things for other people. Feeling under appreciated.

Take a breather! Stop. Take a look around you. Look down at your body. Take in a deep breath and give your body some extra oxygen. Take a sip or drink of water. Get some new energy moving, flowing.

That moment, right there was a simple example of self care. Simply put...."Why self care?" Because we need it and it feels good!

Be joyful, My Friend!
